Team Captain Thunder U Experience

This year’s orientation was called Thunder U. My project focused on giving students (freshman, transfer, and non-traditional) at SUU tours of campus during orientation in order to help them find their classes. The tours are a new orientation program that I created and implemented alongside Chelsea Buck (the new coordinator of Orientation) and my partner Kyra Payne. I was also a Team Captain at orientation. Being a team captain meant mentoring a group of students that I was in charge of all throughout Thunder U. My group were all pre-nursing majors like myself. I was able to answer their questions concerning our major, the Nursing program, prerequisite classes, etc. This program involved a decorated booth where Presidential Ambassadors and myself began the tours. We took all students interested in touring to their Fall 2016 classes. We made sure to point out the Writing Center, the Testing Center, and the Library so they knew about these resources and where to find them. This project is meant to help new students have an easier transition. Being a Team Captain and giving tours is a fun part of Thunder U that helped me use and gain leadership skills.
